San Diego Russian School (SDRS) is incorporated by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Community Commons, an organization which serves a diverse variety of communities as a board of academics and specialists offering education, advanced research services and information management technologies. One of the goals of Community Commons is to promote multi-cultural education and organize cross-cultural ties and exchanges. Community Commons incorporated SDRS in 2010 with the aim to expand a Russian heritage program into a comprehensive language and immersion education system serving students of any age or fluency in Russian. By organizing a classroom space, hiring new pedagogues and providing a means of self-promotion Community Commons has raised a small group project into the professional and official education system it is today. The organization’s contributions have tripled the amount of classes offered by SDRS and increased its attendance fourfold since 2010. The teachers of SDRS work closely with Community Common’s board of directors in deciding future courses and specific topics.
